There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is not legal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that highlights many amenities on top of the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
