There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is not legal. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains numerous amenities on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
